To The Summit And Back

It's the Monday after Sock Summit, and I have a wool hangover.  Like many other knitters I'm trying to recover from four full days of sock knitting fun.

Sock Summit was held at the Oregon Convention Center.

The City of Portland and the Oregon Convention Center were decked out to greet knitters.

The first order of business for me was to get the booth up and running.

After several hours spent arranging and rearranging, the work was finished.

Ready for show time.

And the knitters were lining up.

Ready for opening night at the marketplace.  The line formed a human snake winding through the Convention Center.

It was well worth the wait.  The marketplace was full of knitting goodies - yarn, fiber, needles, bags, all manner of knitting accessories.  The sensation on opening night was Goth Socks - sold out on the first night.

The weekend was full of classes and fun events - everything from an 80s sock hop to the fleece to foot competition.

Late in the day on Saturday a group of knitters assembled outside the Convention Center.

They were gathered for a flash mob.

A flash mob that included yarn.

The flash mob was a huge success.  You can watch a video of the dancing here.

The weekend's festivities included the fastest knitter competition.

These five were knitting in one of the final rounds.  It was amazing to watch such speedy knitters.

Most of my time at Sock Summit was spent tending my booth, but I had plenty of visitors.  Anne Hanson from Knitspot dropped by.  As always it was good to see her.  Donna Druchunas came by and introduced herself.  I met Betsy McCarthy one afternoon.  What a charming lady!  Jeny Staiman, designer of Double Heelix, also stopped by.

And I had a lovely chat with Stephanie and Rachel.

They, in turn, took a minute to hug my Breakwater sample.  They are all about the cashmere.

Sock Summit was a wonderful, exhausting yet exhilarating experience. Thanks to all who stopped by to chat and share the moment.  My next post will include another slice of Sock Summit.

Today marks the one year anniversary of the Dirty Water DyeWorks blog.  I appreciate that you take time to stop by.  I look forward to another year of fiber-filled adventures.
