I've been getting a lot of yarn deliveries, but it's going out as fast as it's coming in.
I took a break from dyeing and shipping and updated the list of shops that carry my yarn. Follow the link and see if your LYS made the list.
It's time for the monthly giveaway. Consider this and leave a comment. One of my customers, Kathy, has a request. It seems that everyone has busy lives and schedules, and she would like to know how people find time for daily knitting. What's your routine? Have you found a way to increase your knitting time? Do you have a secret for managing your knitting time?
Since I just updated the list of shops, I'll add this to the mix. Many people are traveling this time of year. Do your travel plans include stopping at a yarn shop? If so, which one(s) will you visit? Please include your Ravelry ID with the comment. The winner, chosen at random, will receive a skein of Dirty Water DyeWorks yarn - winner's choice. The contest closes on Friday, July 31, 2015.
For this week's color inspiration I found some leaves but not just any old leaves. These green leaves with a cream border are intriguing. It almost looks like the green was applied with a paintbrush.
Like snowflakes, each one is unique and different.

Settling in to catch up with what's been recorded on the TiVo after dinner = time to pull out my knitting. Current projects are a pair of socks (perhaps for me, perhaps for someone else) and a Reyna shawl (so pretty!)
I pretty much only get to knit when I'm watching TV. My husband and I often watch a show before bed, and that's my prime knitting time. I'm also in a few weekly knitting groups, and I treat those as set-in-stone obligations that I must go to, and it helps me relax with friends AND find time for knitting. I think it's good to prioritize those.
I don't have any more travel this year, but in June I went to Seattle, and you better believe that visiting the LYSes in the area was one of my top priorities!
Thanks as always for teh chance to win.
I try to have a project going at all times thats easy to pick up quickly.
Leaving next week to vacation in Nova Scotia. Have mapped the lys on our route!

I always have my knitting in the car with me! I do home visiting for my work and try to find time to knit a row or two. I have been known to even pull it out at a red light to help calm me! But the evening is my favorite time to peruse ravelry and get some progress done on my many projects. Mamagiff on Ravelry
I knit in meetings, and as director of a local non-profit, I seem to find myself sitting in a lot of them. Keeps me sane and my toes comfy in hand-knit socks. SheilaOKeefe on Rav
I knit for 5 minutes here and there and it can add up by the end of the day. That and anytime I'm in the car with my husband, he drives and I always sneak a little knitting into my purse.
And no, no travel plans. No travel yarn souvenirs. :(

I'll be watching the comments with interest, because I haven't yet figured out how to squeeze in much knitting time given my work situation. One thing I plan to try once it cools off enough is choosing very simple projects (like plain ribbed socks) so that I can knit on the bus.
I'm going to Germany in August. I haven't researched yarn shops yet, but if I see one I'll likely end up with a souvenir.

I try to get in as much knitting time as I can every day....15 minutes in the am with my coffee,on my lunch break,2-3 hours on most nights, weekly knitting group, sunny Sunday afternoons on my deck (maybe with a glass of wine;). I found that project bags have helped out a lot. I always have my knitting with me.
I am the only member of my family that lives in NE,so I travel a lot! Mostly Chicago and Buffalo/Rochester,NY.Yarn stores in Chicago: Sisters Art Studio and Knit 1 Chicago. In Rochester,NY: Village Yarn and Fiber Shop.
I am knitting my second Huatau hat....just finished the first one. Very cute! Plus trying get a couple of In the Threes cardigans done for my granddaughter before I fly out to see her next month
I wish I had even more time to knit but I try to take advantage of small chunks of time. I get in a few minutes in the morning before my husband and I leave for work. After work, I try to spend an hour or so in front of the TV and knit. Once a week after work I knit with a group of like-minded individuals. During weekends when the laundry is going, I get in even more knitting time! Road trips are also a great opportunity.
I don't have any travel plans but when I do LYSs are always on the itinerary. Last year I travelled extensively for work and I blame that on the expansion of my stash :)

My method of maximizing knitting time is to have a project with me at all times, I never know when I will get a spare few minutes, or have to wait in line. I also bring it along to all my kids' activities, and knit on my work lunch hour. I also make sure to always have a really simple project on the go, along with the more complicated ones, so it's easy to pick up and I it a row or two. Thanks for the chance to win!
Oopsies....comment # 9 I forgot to add my Rav account:mumula
Thanks! Kathy
I usually have two or three knitting projects going at the same time. They are of varying degrees of difficulty. The easy project I take to music festivals or other places where I do not have to concentrate a lot on my knitting. The more difficult I save for times when I will be alone. Often times I listen to books on tape or podcasts while I am knitting. And sometimes I sit outside with a glass of wine and knit.
I knit in front of the TV, anytime I am the car passenger instead of driver and those precious moments when kids are occupied.
I will be going to VT for the weekend and always stop at an LYS while traveling

I knit while watching TV, choosing between 2 or 3 projects. I am fortunate to be retired, which provides more knitting time. I belong to a knitting club which meets weekly for 1.5 hours, so it's great to have that dedicated to time!
I usually have a few projects going at once, so I can pick whatever fits into the little bits of free time that appear. I keep a small portable project like a hat in the car, so I always have it with me in case I end up waiting in line or something. I also usually have a more complicated project for when I have time to focus, and a mindless stockinette project for knitting during a conference call, etc.
I'm lucky to be retired, so I have LOTS of knitting time.
When I travel, I love to stop at yarn shops that carry local yarns and pick something up that I can't get at home. I used to get a new pair of earrings whenever I went on vacation, but now I get yarn! ( my earring supply is suffering).

I knit after my kiddo goes to bed, and I combine it with TV time, so I am multitasking my relaxation habbits.
I knit while my grandson naps and after he goes to bed. Of course I also have to squeeze in cooking cleaning and laundry😢
I try to always carry a small project with me - usually socks - so that I can knit while waiting in line or while waiting for an appointment. At home, I try to have several projects of different difficulties going so that I can pick up whatever fits the time I have available.
With a new baby, I'm fighting to find time to knit. Most days it's a looooooong row on a blanket (garter, 3.25mm, fingering weight yarn - what was I thinking?!) after I've eaten and before she wakes from her afternoon nap. On the plus side, if we do go to the family vacation home, that's a three hour drive and I can knit garter without looking, and I won't be able to pick up the baby, so there is that. I just got back from vacation so I had additional knitting time as a passenger in the car when my husband was driving. At home I mostly knit at night when the husband is watching TV. I also knit at a knitting group once a week and that is good for a three hour stretch but it has to be a simple project since we are talking and laughing so much.
I try to visit yarn stores while on vacation but this time I did not plan anything since I am going on a trip with two other knitters in the fall and I am sure we will enable each other.
However, while my husband and I were driving through St. Cloud, Minnesota, I spotted a big sign on top of a strip mall building that said simply YARN and my husband did turn the car around and let me visit. Don't remember the name but I had fun and it was a good break.
My Rav name is janineny2001.
I always try to take a project bag of knitting along with me wherever I go, so that if some opportunity arises, I have something along. More often than not, it doesn't happen, but I have high hopes! I also knit at night, after I send my daughter to bed, for about an hour...I watch mindless tv (or listen to classical music) and let the color, and texture and pleasure of the needles wash over me.
I am also selfish and sometimes just sit down in the afternoon and pick up my knitting, just because!
This time of year it is hard to get time in for knitting, but I make it happen. I can usually sneak in a few rows after dark, when everything starts to wind down for the day. I also make sure to take some knitting with me every time I'm the passenger in the car. It's an hour to anywhere from where we live, so that gives me a little bit of time.
I usually manage to get in some knitting in front of the TV after the kids go to bed, but I also *always* have my knitting with me - generally a small project like socks. I knit a few rows here and there when I have to wait for something. I did 4 rows on a sock today during my daughter's swim class!
As for travel, heading to Ohio in late August - any good yarn stores in Akron?!?

With the kids home in the summer, my available knitting time greatly decreases. I do manage to squeak in some after they are in bed at night - an hour or so. I also try to get together with my knitting group - the Wolf Pack - on Wednesday mornings for a couple of hours. Plus I often carry my knitting around just in case I get a few minutes to work on it here an there (if the project isn't too complicated).
I do like to stop at yarn stores when we travel. For example, last year we were driving past my husband's college alma mater and he remembered that there was a yarn store nearby, so we stopped. It was an adorable house-turned-store - Alfred Knitting Studio in Alfred Station, NY. At another point last summer, I got a gorgeous skein of Manos del Uruguay at Natural Stitches in Pittsburgh, PA.

I take my sock-in-progess everywhere and knit while the husband is driving, while waiting for the appointment, etc. Given an opportunity I'll knit. I also knit during TV time at night, the husband watches while I listen. We're not doing any traveling in the near future but whenever there is a LYS around the husband generously stops and plays on his phone while I peruse. Knitting and yarn bring joy into life!
Thank you for the giveaway - rav. id lisabarrett
I try to knit a little every day. I have a project I work on only when my son is taking his bath. Sometimes I stay up past everyone else and knit while watching Netflix. Also, once a week I meet with friends to knit. As for traveling, we are going to visit friends in Salt Lake City, and while there I plan on visiting a great yarn store near their house: Blazing Needles. Thank you for the chance to win one of your beautiful skeins!

I am a traveling fool this summer. The wonderful life of a teacher lets me take advantage of time to travel and knit. My big trip is Paris, where I hope to stop at a LYS to find a French yarn for socks or mittens. Otherwise I will be driving around New York State and knitting as much as possible.
I have a traveling project always in my backpack as I spend many hours a week taking my daughter to and from dance classes and then sitting around during the classes. My hands get tired easily so I have to take a break after a couple of rows. I have increased my knitting time by leaving a project out on the dining room table and picking it up for a row or 2 frequently.
