Sick Day

It was bound to happen.  Over the weekend the current cold-from-hell circulating in my household finally caught up with me.  This particular strain includes a killer cough complete with violent coughing fits intent on bursting a vessel.  In fact last week I took my son to the doctor because his cough was disturbingly bad.  The doctor assured us it wasn't pneumonia but warned us to come back if it got worse.

I was taking all kinds of precautions to keep this awful bug at bay - tea, mega doses of Vitamin C, more tea and keeping a safe distance from anyone with the slightest sniffle.  I even considered locking myself in a room, but in the end that just wasn't a practical option. Despite my valiant efforts, on Friday I could feel the cold creeping in and by Sunday I was down.  This limited my schedule in many ways, but it didn't keep me from picking up my knitting.

Even though I felt miserable, forward progress on Fiar kept me in good spirits.  Today I've definitely turned the corner.  I'm back at it and making up for lost time.

We're heading into the last week of February, and it's time for the monthly giveaway.  Leave a comment and include your Ravelry ID. If this winter has been particularly challenging in your neck of the woods, how have you been coping?  Have snow days given you extra knitting time?  What's on your needles?  Is anyone looking ahead to spring knitting?

The winner, chosen at random, will receive a skein of Dirty Water DyeWorks yarn - winner's choice.  The contest closes on Monday, March 2, 2015.

Now that I knit and because I live in an apt (and don't need to shovel) I have to admit that I'm liking my self-imposed snow days. Getting a lot of knitting and tv watching done.

I just finished two shawls and am thinking of what to do next. I've been enjoying watching the process of your fiar, as that's in my library too. I've been thinking of maybe some crochet or knit tanks/shirts. Can't decide though.

One of the best things about living in AZ is the winter. No snow this year so far. If we do get snow it only lasts till lunch.

This has not been my favorite winter by far! My daughter has had some health issues ans spent eight days in the hospital and needed lots of attention and commuting after that. Of course, I'm glad to help, her in any way that I can, but it has been very stressful! Anyway, the snow has actually been a blessing because her classes were canceled some days and I was able to have extra time to knit :)

Yes...the occasional snow cancelation of work has been a boon to knitting time interspersed with shoveling. Have been trying out different mitten patterns. Enjoyed the Wayland Farmers Market fiber day this past Saturday...a great distraction. Rav ID: 58hollett

I do consider snow days guilt free knitting days. I'm looking to start a colorful project to counter the blues and grays all around.

Feel better soon!

Snow a huge factor in my life now - plus that hand surgery that is not healing has kept me out of knitting for over a month. Cabin fever and can't even knit - not a pretty combo here :(

If anything, the snow takes away from my knitting time. I'm out shoveling it! And when I do get to sit down, I just fall asleep! I can't wait for winter to be over so I'll have more free time.

We've actually had a fairly warm and sunny winter here in Oregon, but I still dealt with my dislike of the general gloom of an Oregon winter by going to Florida for 10 days this month.

I'm under the Boston 100+ inches. I actually don't mind shoveling. So I've tried to combine as much knitting as possible with getting outside to shovel and break up ice. I have family in Chicago and upstate NY, so I may be able to complain about snow, but not the cold.

Winter has not been kind to me this year - I've fallen on ice and broken bones a couple of times now (wrist in December, ankle recently). PSA, everyone: be careful walking on ice!

You'd think I'd have a lot of time to knit since I'm stuck on the couch, but I'm able to work from home and am doing a lot of overtime. I did start a sock yesterday, though.

Winter knitting is the BEST, but this winter has been too long to even enjoy the fibery goodness of wool and needles in my hands.

Sigh, but I am working (finally) on my Honey Bunches from the Yarn Knot. That red is keeping me feeling warm and cozy.
