My Strathcona is off the needles and blocked. I couldn't be happier.
Later this morning I'll pop it in the mail, and my part in this larger project - 5 scarves total - will be finished.
This pattern wasn't hard, and I love the finished product, but the second half was a challenge. I have one issue with mindless projects. They aren't a good distraction. Instead of being absorbed in the project at hand, all I can think about is other knitting I would rather be doing. It took all my resolve to keep knitting this scarf and not pick up any of the entertaining projects I already have in progress.
This design features bias garter on the ends and a lace mesh pattern in the middle. It's a great design, and I would definitely wear this scarf if I didn't have to ship it off for a good cause.
The yarn is Julia, colorway Cinderella. This blend is 50% Superwash Merino, 50% Tencel. I hadn't knit with it in a while and had forgotten the nice drape and shimmer.
Thanks to everyone who left a comment for the bonus giveaway. So many of you are busy with KALs. I've always said that mistakes are one of the best teachers. Rebecca's comment reinforced that notion, ". . . my second go at the same pattern - learned a lot from my mistakes ." Mistakes will always happen, and you're never too old to learn.

I'm often finishing projects at the last minute, and one of these times I know I'm going to run out of minutes. Shows are my most pressing deadlines, and there's nothing like a deadline to motivate me to finish a project. Last Thursday evening, the night before I left for Fiber Frolic, I decided I had just enough time to block another booth sample.
Cicada Shawl.
This is an interesting pattern with left and right crosses moving across the body of the shawl.
There's a certain rhythm to knitting the crossed stitches, and they add both texture and visual contrast.
The border is full of twists and turns that can only be fully appreciated when the shawl is blocked. I'm delighted with the outcome.
The yarn is Julia, colorway Silver. This blend of Merino and Tencel has nice drape with a bit of shimmer.
The spring show season is over, but I'm still on the road. This coming Saturday I'll be Eneri Knits from 11:00 - 3:00 for a trunk show. If you're in the area, stop by.

This week I should have been doing many things, but instead I've been preoccupied with Octavia. I simply could not put it down.
Now it is off the needles.
It has been bathed.
Blocked.
And shaped just so.
I had planned to do a photo shoot outdoors; however, Mother Nature did not cooperate.
The winds were so vicious I'm sure Octavia would have landed somewhere in the Berkshires.
This shawl was my on-the-go project. The pattern isn't overly complicated but had enough going on to hold my interest. And a couple of times it challenged my ability to count.
Octavia is perfect for this time of year - a little something for those chilly spring days. The yarn is Dirty Water DyeWorks Julia, colorway Lilac.
When I first saw this pattern, I knew I wanted to use this yarn and this colorway. Julia is a merino/tencel blend and has wonderful drape and sheen. The Lilac colorway has subtle color shifts that don't conflict with the pattern. The yarn and pattern complement each other nicely.
In spite of less than ideal weather I did manage to find my color inspiration for the week outside.
More purple.
This has been one of those weeks that I thought would never end. Usually when there are extra things on my schedule, the time flies. Not so this week. By the time Wednesday rolled around I felt like I was on a vicious merry-o-round where time was suspended, and I was trapped doing the same thing over and over. Today I jumped off that merry-go-round, and it's finally Friday.
I'm wrapping up the week with a pair of finished socks.
The pattern is Jeck, a simple ribbed pattern enhanced with a slip stitch.
The yarn is Dirty Water DyeWorks Lucia, colorway Berry Patch.
When I started these socks, I purposely selected a color that was out of my comfort zone. This colorway has shades of pink with flecks of purple. While Berry Patch is a color I would not normally wear, I must admit it has grown on me. It will be fun to have a splash of pink on my feet.
My current lace project, Octavia, continues to grow.
This yarn is Dirty Water DyeWorks Julia, colorway Lilac. This is another color that I wouldn't normally choose, but I'm forcing myself to expand my horizons. While it doesn't look like much yet, there are tiny violets emerging as I work my way up to over 230 stitches.
This Sunday I will be vending at the marketplace for The Great Rhody Yarn Crawl. There is so much energy and excitement surrounding this event. It's bound to be a lot of fun. If you're in the area, check out the list of participants and activities.
This week I noticed tiny bursts of color in the outside world. The first colors of spring are so striking against the earth tones of winter. These tiny, little blooms are my color inspiration for the week.
Shades of purplish blue.
I'm pulling everything together here before I hit the road to Freeport. I have one last sample that will be making the trek with me.
Dipped Infinity Scarf by Laura Chau. A dear friend knit this sample for me, and I'm delighted with it. So delighted that if I didn't have to pack I would sit down right now and start one for myself.
There are 8 different colors of Julia in this scarf, moving from dark to light. I will have this available as a kit.
Blues.
Greens.
And purples.
Knit this scarf and watch the colors shift - an entertaining, mesmerizing project.
And now back to the task at hand.
Packing.
Over the weekend I finished Scroll Lace Scarf. After slogging through the border the body practically knit itself.
This scarf is destined to be a booth sample. Do I knit anything else these days? I blocked it right away so that it's ready to travel with me next week.
Each point of the picot edge was pinned out.
I appreciate this garment so much more after blocking.

Valentine's Day crept up on me this year. It's a good thing that others in this household have taken the initiative to mark the day.
