Peace

On Monday last week I posted that I would be absent for a while.  A slowly simmering family situation was starting to boil, and I needed to focus my attention.  In this world of numerous responsibilities and countless distractions, we have one rule.  Family first.

Sometimes it's best not to have any warning of the difficult situations that await you.  There are some things in life you can't truly grasp until they actually happen.  The ensuing days included heartache, turmoil, tears and even a few laughs.  I have many friends and family members who rose to the occasion, and I'm forever grateful to my support network.  As my family slowly transitions back to normal routines, we are reminded that life will never be the same, but as a family we are stronger and ready for the challenges ahead.  There is peace.

This is a long holiday weekend for many, and it marks the unofficial end of summer.  This summer has been far from ordinary, and I'm happy to bid it adieu.  To wrap it up on a positive note, I'm squeezing in the August giveaway.  Leave a comment and let us know what you're knitting.  Do you have a special fall project in the works?  Are there any Rhinebeck sweaters among us?  Are you particularly proud of a project you just finished?  The winner, chosen at random, will receive a skein of yarn from Dirty Water DyeWorks - winner's choice. The contest closes on Friday, September 5, 2014.

For my color inspiration this week, I leave you with this.

Charming shades of pink.

I'm working on a Mork using your gorgeous Edna Extra, finishing a sweater from last year's trip to Rhinebeck, and trying to get some socks off the needles.

I'm halfway thru knitting a cardigan for my husband; a "carrot" to get him to throw out the old, ratty, acrylic sweaters lurking in his wardrobe. After that, I'll be knitting a cardigan for myself.

I'm without a project! I'll get two or three cast on over the long weekend, but I just this month started a project of making boas and stoles out of all the fun fur and eylash and glittery yarns I've acquired over the years. I hoped I'd have several ready by Hallowe'en, but I don't like knitting with them so it's slow work. I've only finished 2 so far. I haven't decided whether to slog on with that or do some knitting I enjoy.

I have Hitofude in progress for myself, Madelintosh's Opaline colorway. Then it's back to a 3/4ths completed, way overdue baby blanket. Want to start my French Braid Cardigan before diving into Christmas knitting. Not sure I'll get it all down anytime soon, but I can dream!

i only recently was made aware of your website and blog. I much admire your strength, courage, fortitude and yes grace as well, as you navigate difficult waters.
My carry it with me knitting is a hat being knit in sock yarn, it will be doubled up when finished. the yarn is a gorgeous silk and wool mix. I knit a couple of hats this summer for a call out in its second year: items such as hats that are going to be donated to a local men's shelter.

Been in between projects after crashing and burning on the cedar leaf shawlette our mutual friend encouraged me to try. Just heard a young friend is going to soon be a first time Mom, so gonna knit her new babe a hat (she is due Dec. 1). Thinking of you at this time, sending good energy your way. <3

Working on a shawl in simple garter stitch. Mindless knitting while my brain is in back to school mode. Love the pink glads!

I'm working on some socks, nothing special but they'll keep my toes warm this winter.

I am knitting an Amy Herzog V-neck cardigan vest. I am attending her knitting retreat at the end of September and really want to have this finished, blocked, and ready to wear! Thanks for the chance to enter your giveaway!

Working on a baby blanket for my new grandson and a dinosaur pillow for my granddaughter. Hopefully soon I will be finishing a shawl I started before my grandson was born. Had to hurry and knit a bunch of boy things after he arrived because he was supposed to be a she and all the pink things I made just wouldn't do!

Working on the "Fires of Industry" kit. I know you have heard me swear about the vagaries of Noro, but the colors sure are pretty. Oh, and the last of the college move-ins for this fall takes place today and tomorrow. Then it should be pretty peaceful around here.

I want to begin a CAL sweater. It will be my first major project. I usually stick to smaller projects such as socks, hats, and mittens.

I'm knitting a color affection shawl out of Lillian. I hope to show off at Southern Adirondack. Also sending you many good vibes/thoughts during what sounds like a difficult time.

Still have Color Affection shawl languishing in the UFOs. Next I am looking to work Downton Cowl, then one shawl I bought a pattern from you, then Garland shawl. (yes I see the shawl trend ;)
