Rhinebeck Preview - Part 3

The new samples keep coming.

Today's feature . . .

Gulf of Maine.

There's nothing like a cozy cowl, and this pattern is relaxing.  Mindless doesn't have to be boring, and the stripes make this an entertaining project.

The yarn is Petite Clara, colorways Piglet, Winter Sky and Carbon. With so many color options, it's hard to pick just one.

Good Use

My needles are empty again.

Backstage Boss.  This hat was a win all the way around.  It was a quick knit, and I used up leftover yarn in the process.  I love the fit, I love the stripes . . . this hat is for me.  Of course if stripes aren't your thing, you can make a solid version.  The pattern also includes two size options. The yarn is Petite Clara, colorways Acorn and Winter Sky.

After pulling this yarn from my basket of leftovers, I'm feeling particularly thrifty and clever.  I think I'll see what other odds and ends I can put to good use.

One Down

I've been chugging right along with new booth samples - one finished, another one under construction.  I may be struggling to stay on track with my dyeing schedule, but the knitting side of the operation is on target.  For the moment.  And really, when it looks like this outside, all I want to do is stay put and knit.

This uneven path is my sidewalk.  It's a road to nowhere because I can't even make it to the corner without scaling that huge snowbank at the end.  Our weekend weather forecast includes another foot of snow (that's 30 cm for those of you who are metric-minded), so there's more prime knitting time headed my way.

Off the needles . . .

Dovetail Cowl.  I love this pattern.  Simple knit and purl combinations can entertain me for hours.

This pattern includes two sizes, and I made the smaller one this time around.

A couple years ago I made the larger size, but that one has gone missing.  I think I might have loaned it to a yarn shop, and I'm sure it will surface eventually.

In the meantime I used its absence as a good excuse to make another one.

The yarn is Petite Clara, colorway Chartreuse.

This BFL yarn is always a favorite, and lately I've been smitten with this colorway.  See my Algonquin Hat.  In an attempt to achieve balance, I'm making a concerted effort to steer clear of green for my upcoming projects.

For this week's color inspiration I revisited my inspiration from two weeks ago.

That splash of red is barely visible now, and by Monday I'm sure it will be gone.

Buried.

Around and Around

I have another hat ready for action.

Matterhorn Hat.

I'm on a hat knitting merry-go-round and can't seem to jump off.  I'm not sure I want to.  Small projects, relaxed knitting.  What's not to love?  Hats are done in almost no time, and the winter wind is howling. I might have to stay on this merry-go-round for a while.

I whipped up Matterhorn over the weekend while I was in Vermont.  It was a working weekend with just enough time for a hat's worth of knitting.

This design features a turned-back brim for extra warmth.  The yarn is Petite Clara, colorway Winter Sky.

Now I'm off to do a little browsing.  Since I'm on this merry-go-round, I might as well see what other hats I can discover.

Algonquin Hat

The talk around town is all about the cold weather that's headed our way later this week.  Bring it on.  I'm ready to greet it with a new hat.

Algonquin Hat by Thea Colman of BabyCocktails fame.  Yes, that's the top of the grill.  I didn't have a live model and had to be creative.

When I need instant gratification, there's nothing like knitting a hat.  It seems I had just settled in when this hat was ready to come off the needles.

This design features an 8-row repeat that creates a fabric full of texture.  It's even more fun with the change in colors.

The yarn is Petite Clara, colorways Chartreuse and Acorn.  Like the name says, this yarn is the small skein version of Clara - worsted weight, 100% Blue Faced Leicester.   Petite Clara has just been added to the website and is available in a range of colors - plenty of options for mixing and matching.

Thea recommends finishing by weaving in the tail and going through the loops on the wrong side.  I usually do the weaving on the right side, but I decided to follow her advice.

I must say it makes a nice finish, and it's always fun to tweak a technique.
