Penny

Last weekend I went to Fiber Festival of New England with 2 new samples.  I already showed you Hoarfrost - an elegant, lacy cowl made with a Merino / Yak / Silk blend.

Today I get to show off Penny.

I caught Estrella just before she headed out on another training run and made a deal for a few quick pictures.  It took some convincing. There's another half marathon in the not-too-distant future, and she's all business when it comes to her training.

This one piece vest is knit side to side.  There aren't any seams, so the finishing is minimal.

The lace border is just enough to keep things interesting.

The pattern includes instructions for 5 yarn weights, so there are plenty of options.  The design is simple with beautiful drape.  This is one of those patterns that looks good on almost everybody.

The yarn is Edna Extra, colorway Tide Pool.  I never tire of working with this Polwarth / Silk blend.

I've finished 2 projects in less than a week - that gives me license to start something new.  If you need me, I'll be over on Ravelry.

Adding Variety

Variety is the spice of life . . . and knitting.  I always have several knitting projects in progress.  That way I don't have to lug a worsted weight sweater to the beach, and it keeps things interesting.

The other day I noticed that all my focus projects right now are fingering weight.  While I dearly love fingering, I felt I needed a little more balance.  And so I started this.

Penny had been hovering near the top of my queue for a while, so it feels good to finally have it on the needles.  I'm working with Edna Extra, colorway Tide Pool.

Knitting with heavier weight yarn can be a bonus.  The inches are adding up quickly.  I like this kind of variety.

Squeeze Me

Another infinity cowl off the needles and ready to go.

Squeeze Me.

And like those silly commercials for toilet paper, all I want to do is squeeze this cowl.

The staggered rows of knit / purl combinations create a fabric that is dense, cozy, reversible, full of texture . . . squeezable.

The pattern includes three sizes.

I made the largest, and it can easily be doubled up.

The yarn is Edna Extra, colorway Mauve.

This blend has a bit of silk.  It's a treat to work with and creates fabric with nice drape.

While I do think I've had my fill of infinity cowls for a while, I don't think I've completely exhausted the cowl theme.  They do come in handy.

My color inspiration this week is a smattering of this and that.

Clara And More

My to-do list for the weekend included updating a few pages on the website - a simple enough task.  Somehow I deluded myself into thinking this would be a quick update, and I completely underestimated the amount of time it would take.

In all fairness I did encounter some technical difficulties with my computer.  Timing is everything.  I knew my computer was on the brink of some issues.  I only wish it had waited until after the update to start acting up.  I was resourceful and sorted it out, but the bottom line is the update really cut into my weekend knitting time.  And this time of year every minute of knitting time counts.

On to the good news.  I'm delighted to announce the addition of Clara - a 100% Blue Faced Leicester, worsted weight yarn.  This yarn is soft and lustrous with just a hint of a halo.

This base takes dye beautifully and produces rich, deep colorways. Clara is available in large, 250 gram skeins - perfect for bigger projects.

Speaking of larger skeins . . . for the fall shows I offered Edna Extra - the 250 gram version of the popular Edna yarn.  It was so well received that I decided to make it available on the website.  This DK weight yarn is a blend of Polwarth wool and silk.  It's a dream to knit and creates a lovely fabric.
