Happy Friday! If you're looking for a quick colorwork project, take a look at August Hat.
The colorwork motifs are easy to follow and are set off by Latvian braids. This hat is warm and cozy, and it fits like a dream. The pattern calls for worsted weight yarn. I used Norma in Paprika and Fog.
The weekend is here, and I have a little experiment brewing.

Bright shovels.
A while ago I noticed my mitten collection was seriously depleted. I probably could have made a couple pairs with orphan mitts, but there are times when I need to look more put together.
I cast on a pair of fingerless mitts and worked on them here and there between other projects. When the stormy weather forecast for the weekend came in, I dropped everything else and concentrated on the mitts.
Maine Morning Mitts. In case you're wondering the yarn is Norma in Paprika. After I typed that, I discovered Norma isn't listed on the website. I'll add it to my list of updates.
These mitts are a staple, but I seem to have lost or misplaced all the pairs that I've made in the past. These will come in handy as our wintery weather continues into tomorrow. Since the season is just getting started and I have a bad habit of losing mitts, I need to cast on another pair.
The hat parade continues.
Leuty Hat. This project was on and off the needles in no time. I made a slight change and used a smaller needle for the brim. Other than that I followed the pattern as written, including the suggestion to use a tubular cast on.
The yarn is Norma, colorway Peacock. This design uses knit-purl combinations to create a dense, comfy fabric.
And I topped it all off with a pompom.
This might not be the end of the parade. I had a dream about hats last night . . .
Sometimes I need a day of relaxing yet productive knitting, and yesterday was one of those days. I have a pompom stash to choose from, so I started there. I picked the pompom I wanted to use and worked my way down to the yarn and pattern.
In no time at all, I had a hat up and running. I had an unscheduled day, so I worked on it here and there. I took time out to get groceries, made dinner for the family, did laundry and dirty dishes . . . all surrounded by knitting. By the end of the day, I was finished.

I was looking for a relaxing knit, and this design fits the bill with an easy to memorize garter and rib stitch pattern.

Only one beer was consumed in making this hat. I attached the pompom with the button method. If you're interested in the details, I posted a little how-to here.

Recently a friend and I were discussing strategies for dealing with all our knitting projects . . . how to juggle them and set priorities. One approach is always have a finisher - a project you can concentrate on and get off the needles.
It's a great boost to finish something. It can be a project that's almost finished or one on deadline. You can work on other things too, but the focus is on the finisher.
As luck would have it, I have three projects that qualify as finishers because they're all on deadline. Over the weekend I focused on getting one off the needles.
This was the quickest of the lot. It's another Inclination. My third one. What can I say. The other two are in use, and I needed a sample.
Pink isn't my personal color preference, but it is warm and cheery. This is the Norma base in Piglet.
Complete with a bit of snow.

The yarn is Norma, colorway Celestial. I'm smitten with this new worsted Merino base. It creates a cozy, squishy fabric. Sorry it's not on the website yet. Coming soon.
This project is perfect for on the go and practically knits itself. Based on Ravelry project notes, I started with four knit rounds and ended with four knit rounds. Other than that, I followed the pattern as written.
With the holidays right around the corner, Inclination gets my vote for gift knitting. There's also a bulky weight version if your time is really tight.
This cowl is one of my new favorites . . . I've already wound yarn for another one.
