Busy Needles

I've definitely been keeping my needles busy.  The other day I started a new project that wasn't slated for construction until later this summer.

The yarn was wound and sitting on my work table.  It was taunting me, and I felt helpless.  In the end, I couldn't resist.

I know I won't stop with this project.  Now that the floodgates are open, I'm going to roll with it.  I already have more new projects screaming for attention.  I might have to dye some yarn first, but that's not a problem. The world is a dumpster fire right now, and knitting helps me cope.

Knit on . . .

We all knew it was coming, but the release of the Roe decision on Friday really hit hard.  It reminded me of death.  When someone is dying and you know the end is near, it doesn't seem real until they take their last breath.  It's only after the last breath that reality sinks in, and you can start grieving.

Like so many others, I spent the weekend processing the decision and grieving.  I listened to as much news as I could handle.  I did very little cooking.  I may have lost my way on Netflix.

And I took Elizabeth Zimmermann's quote to heart and did a lot of knitting.  "Knit on, with confidence and hope, through all crises."

Monday morning dawned, and I still feel numb, weary and exhausted.   Eventually I'll come out of this fog of grief, and then it'll be time for action.  Take good care and knit on.

Desk Duty

I've been tethered to my desk this week . . . emails, paperwork, website update complete with a call to tech support.  Add to that list a bit of fall planning.  Yes, I said fall.  I know we just officially kicked off summer, but fall is coming.

To break up the monotony, I've been going through a few project bags that have taken up residence near my desk.

This one was a pleasant surprise.  I'd forgotten all about this bag of goodies.  I have yarn wound and ready to cast on.  As luck would have it, I remember the name of the project I had in mind.  As a bonus, there seems to be a certain fall vibe with this color combination.  I'm ready to experiment with this collection a little more . . . after I finish that paperwork.

Knitting Dividends

A little focused knitting time over the weekend has paid dividends. Other than time spent on a rather long bind off, this is the only project I worked on.

I debated the colors for this project and went back and forth with several options.  I finally settled on this combo.  Now that the second color has come into play, I can't put it down.  I have a couple other projects anxiously waiting in the wings.  They might have to wait just a little bit longer . . .

Don't Leave Home Without It

I know last weekend was World Wide Knit in Public Day, but I actually make a habit of knitting in public.  Sometimes I even meet interesting people because of it.

The other day I was out with a knitter friend, and of course I had my knitting in tow.  A fellow knitter walked by and stopped to ask about the yarn I was using.  We talked about yarn and local shops. He's still getting up the nerve to knit his first sweater, and we gave him some words of encouragement.  It's always fun to meet knitters in the wild.

My weekend plans . . .

I'm finally going to bind off this substantial shawl.  With close to 500 stitches, I'll need a big cup of coffee and a good chunk of time.

Always Planning

The world is a dumpster fire (still? again?), and it's easy to get bogged down these days.  I'm making a concerted effort to keep busy, and planning new projects can be a wonderful distraction.

I need a relaxing project, and this combination has potential.  Colorful fun ahead!

Random on Monday

Thanks to everyone who stopped by Salt Yarn Studio on Saturday.

It was World Wide Knit in Public Day, and we had a fun afternoon hanging out and knitting on the lawn.

I'm kicking off the week with a quick website update.

The Weekend . . . Finally

I've had a few long days this week, so I'm delighted that Friday is finally here.  It's been a busy week for dyeing . . . a lot of minis.

Most of these will become bundles.  Bright and cheerful.

New and Refreshing

Just like that . . . it's been a week since my last post.  I thought I'd be able to steal a few minutes to check in here, but the days flew by.

I spent the weekend in Maine at Fiber Frolic.  I didn't get any pictures, but it was great fun chatting with everyone who stopped by the booth.  The weather was perfect, the food was good and the weekend companionship was delightful.

It's taken me a couple days to get situated again on the home front, but I've settled back into a routine.  Now I can focus on knitting again.

New projects are always so refreshing.

A Mad Dash

I'm in the middle of packing up the booth for Maine Fiber Frolic this weekend, and I'm pulling together a bunch of loose ends.  Even though I'm pretty well organized, but there's still a time crunch.

Just a quick reminder for all you Cape Cod knitters that I'll be at Salt Yarn Studio on June 11 for World Wide Knit in Public Day.

If the weather cooperates, we'll be knitting on the lawn.  I'll also have kits for the Rock It Tee KAL, yarn and samples.  Be sure to stop by if you're in the area.

I'm in a mad dash to get this sample off the needles.

I'm almost there.  Thoughts for a new project are percolating . . .
