Testing and Tweaking

It's always fun to play with new colors.  Recently I lost a couple days to mixing new color options.  It's a wonderful distraction.

Sometimes what I mix doesn't turn out quite the way I had imagined, so I go back and tweak it a little.  Or a lot.  Sometimes I abandon the formula all together for something completely unrelated.  And sometimes one new color can be a springboard for several new colors.

Look for a few new additions to the lineup later this spring.

Fiber Marketplace

It's a new week, and I'm off and running.  The dye pots are on, and I've sent out several priority emails.  As long as I stay away from Ravelry, I can probably keep this momentum going well into the afternoon.

On Saturday I had a great time with South Shore knitters at Plymouth Harbor Knits.  It's always fun to talk about patterns, and I came away with several project ideas.

The pace of spring fiber events is picking up.  Today I have a quick reminder about the Fiber Marketplace coming up on Saturday, April 9, 10:00 - 3:00.  Yikes!  Where did March go?

I'm looking forward to this event.  It's in a new location and features a fun mix of vendors.  York, Maine is an easy drive for many people.  You'll find all the event details here.

Weekend Project

A week can either fly by without a hitch, or it can be a real slog.  For some reason, this week has been a slog.  It feels good to be heading into the weekend and a little reset.

I'm looking forward to visiting Plymouth Harbor Knits tomorrow afternoon, and I have this new project tucked away for Sunday.

When one of my kids requests a handknit, I get right on it.  This is a relaxing project, and I'm looking forward to a little downtime.  Cheers to the weekend!

Knitting Homework

Every day I have a to-do list.  Often the tasks are boring or unappealing, but they're all necessary.  Usually I march through the list and check off items as I go, but I have to admit that sometimes I procrastinate.

Today (near the top of the list after taking the dog to the vet), I have to do a little knitting homework.

I have to cast on a new project for the brioche class that kicks off this evening.  I'm sitting in on the session and that means I have to put some stitches on the needles.  This is one task I won't procrastinate on doing.

Match-Ups

I had a productive weekend of knitting and worked on different projects, but at the end of it all I think a couple of them are teetering on the edge.

It's all about the match-ups.  Either I'm not crazy about the color and the pattern or the yarn and the pattern.  I let things rest overnight, but today I'm sure there will be some frogging.

Don't waste your time.  It's better to rip back early than to prolong the inevitable.  That's the advice I always give my knitting students, and today I'm following that advice.

Knits and Purls

It's hard to concentrate on just one project these days, and I find myself bouncing back and forth between several.  I have deadlines and I'd like to be more focused, but there are just too many distractions.

This little cowl project is manageable most days.

Ice Storm: Snug Cowl.

Simple combinations of knits and purls.  The rhythm is relaxing and meditative.  I'm using the Heartbreak Hill 2022 colorway in Lillian Sport.  It has great stitch definition and highlights the texture in this pattern.

Spring Calendar

Spring always brings a little flurry of fiber festival activity.  Since we're easing into a new season, I updated the calendar through April.  You'll find all the details in the right sidebar.

First up is a trunk show at Plymouth Harbor Knits on March 26.  Stop by if you're on the South Shore.  I'll have plenty of yarn available plus samples for ideas and inspiration.

On the needles . . . I've been focused on this project the last couple days.

Joyful shawl.  This project has taken a back seat to other samples.  Now I'm anxious to finish this section of stripes, but I'm a little nervous I'll run out of Beet Red.  The race is on.  Hope I don't end up losing another game of yarn chicken.

MishMash

Here's a sample spotlight to start the week.

MishMash.  This cowl features a variety of colorwork patterns.

One section also incorporates bobbles.

The yarn is Lillian in Fog and Leprechaun.  Leprechaun is in stock, but it might not be listed on the website just yet.  Send an email if you're looking for it.

Quick update.  There's still time to get in on the Brioche Kit & Class.

Kits are available in a variety of color combinations and include four hours of Zoom instruction with Hélène Driesen of Kieran Knits.  The first class is next week.  This is a fun opportunity to take a class with a knitting friend and learn a new technique.  See website for all the details.

Searching for Resolution

The other day I fell down that bottomless pit of yarn, colors and patterns known as Ravelry.  You know what it's like.  Playing with different color combinations while scrolling through pages and pages of patterns only to get lost in an endless swirl of possibilities and open browser tabs.

I kept telling myself I really needed to crawl out of the pit and move on to more pressing work . . . after I looked up one more pattern.  And that, of course, led to other patterns or a different designer or a new combination of search terms and filters.

When all was said and done, I was fixated on this color combination, but the pattern I had in mind wasn't going to work.  So this afternoon I went back to the pit and searched some more.  I'm happy to say I now have a short list of pattern options.  If I can't make a decision, I might just flip a coin this evening to bring about some resolution.

The stress of the world situation still weighs heavy, and for that there is no easy resolution.  May we all capture a few moments of peace and tranquility this weekend.

This morning I picked up some daffodils when I was running errands.  At the time they were tiny, tight clusters without much color, but in a few short hours they had opened up.  Just in time to be this week's color inspiration.

Yellow hope and cheer.

Pray for Ukraine

My schedule is a little off this week, and I missed my Monday post.  I'm back on track now.

For today I have a website update.

The Pray for Ukraine Mitten Kit is now available.

We released this kit last Sunday at Farm Fiber Day.  We had such a positive response and there was such an interest in the kit that we decided to make it available to a wider audience.

All proceeds from the sale of this kit will be donated to World Central Kitchen, an aid organization providing meals to Ukrainians in need.

The Pray for Ukraine pattern is available on Ravelry.

The designer, knittinglotta, is offering the pattern free of charge.  In the words of Lotta, ". . . let us knit a better world!"

Brioche Kit & Class

We had so much fun with thrummed mittens last month that we decided to offer another class in the Kit & Class series.

Two-color brioche.  I know people are often intimidated by brioche, but it's really not as hard as it looks.  Hélène Driesen of Kieran Knits will be teaching again, and she'll be using Liguria (Ravelry link) for the class project.  The fun starts later this month with two Zoom sessions.

Kits are available in several color combinations.  See website for all the details.  If you're going to Farm Fiber Day on Sunday, you can grab a kit and sign up for the class then.

Change of Scenery

World events have been dragging me down.  My work list this week is extra long and the schedule is tight, but I did a little juggling and made a small opening.

I took a short drive for a little fresh air and some uninterrupted knitting time.  It helped to clear my head.  How's your week going?  Remember, if you need to regroup, it's OK to take a break.
