One knitting project is never enough. I'll admit that every once in a while I probably go overboard with too many projects on the needles, but take this example.
Prairie Mittens. I'm smitten with this project, but it requires some attention. To stay on track, I set up a chart for two sets of instructions worked simultaneously. I would love to work on this project exclusively, but in reality my day is full of interruptions, and this project isn't a good fit for those conditions.
Luckily I have something else on the go.
Simple stockinette. Pick it up, put it down, pick it up again . . . I always know where I am.
A Monday holiday combined with fresh snow . . . the perfect ingredients for some extra knitting time.
This is the project I had to rip out the other day. I've worked my way past the point of ripping, so it feels like I'm finally making forward progress. For those who are wondering, this is Snowcastles. Even the name of this project is perfect for today.

I'm using a mini gradient bundle, and I worked my way into the third skein.

Today the dye pots are on, and I'm knitting a few rows here and there.

Shades of winter.
First of all, here's a quick schedule update. On Saturday, February 23, I'll be in Portland at KnitWit Yarn Shop, 1:00-3:00.
As always I'll have new samples in tow plus yarn and bundles. If you have cabin fever, this is a good excuse to get out and be inspired.
Yesterday we had a snow day, and I took that as a sign to start something new.
This project was much bigger, but by the end of the day I decided I didn't like the gauge so I ripped it out and started over. This is much better. Remember if you're not happy with a project, don't fool yourself into thinking it will work out. It won't. Save yourself the time and rip early.
A major head cold took me down last week. When I think back, this cold actually started brewing the week before, but it hit me with a
one-two punch last week and I landed in bed for several days. I usually muddle along through most colds, so the fact that this one took me out of commission and kept me from knitting is a testament to just how bad it was.
The doctor told me to take it easy. I must admit I've never been very good at following that advice, but I didn't have much choice this time around. Over the weekend when I could sit on the couch propped up with needles in hand, I knew I was on the road to recovery. Today I'm still a little wobbly, but I'm upright and functioning on some level.
I didn't tackle anything too adventurous when I was recovering on the couch.
Wavy Legs. This hat has a nice deep brim, and interesting combinations of knit and purl stitches make for a cozy, squishy fit.
The yarn is Lucia DK in Heliotrope. Other options . . . make it without the pompom or add a strand of mohair for a soft halo. There's nothing like a good hat to boost the spirits.
I wrapped up a busy weekend with a feeling of accomplishment.
I finished my second Pātiki Cowl with leftover Sprinkles from the first cowl. I weighed the yarn before I started and was pretty confident I had enough so no yarn chicken this time around. This cowl is all mine although my daughter made a comment about wanting it. I know that sharing with her isn't a good idea. If she's serious, I'll make another one.
In the midst of Super Bowl festivities, we celebrated a birthday.
Cowl, cake, Patriots . . . it was a successful weekend all around.
This is the discussion I've been having with myself. Do you really need to cast on another new project? Sure, why not. The more the merrier.
I finished my Harlow hat a couple weeks ago, and I'm craving more brioche. Last night I was burning the midnight oil to get this project up and running, and now it's humming along nicely. Pink isn't my usual color choice, but it has a certain appeal this time of year.
